Zero-second brain cycle can present with different conditions at different ages.
A mom’s newborn was having trouble latching, sucking, and doing tummy time. He had a zero-second brain cycle and a nasty neck arch. His mom questioned a tongue tie, but his oral tissues felt fine.
He was born blue with the cord wrapped around his neck. I was thinking of many visits for resolution, but his body fooled me. He had an incredible first visit, with his brain opening to a 190-second cycle.
On the next visit, mom said he was doing great with no issues, an unusually positive outcome after only one visit. I just helped clear some residual strain on his second visit.
Mom asked if I could see his eight-year-old brother on a later visit. He was not a good student with focus, reading, and concentration problems. His mother said he was also difficult to discipline but refused to give him medication.
His birth history was uneventful, but that does not mean his soft tissues were spared from trauma. He also had a zero-second brain cycle and an upper-body trunk twist going into his pelvis.
He also had some neck arching like his brother and finished the first visit at 50 seconds—a good cycle for an eight-year-old. Newborns respond so much better primarily because of the lack of cranial ossification.
One family study does not make a medical scientific proof, but I have seen this phenomenon repeat itself many times over the decades. If the craniosacral fascial system is not opened at birth, the child may appear to “outgrow” the infant problems. But later in childhood and even adulthood, a new set of conditions can arise from the birth trauma.
The answer is to check every newborn and start therapy, if needed, as soon as possible. Gillespie Approach Training is so needed for all birth professionals.
