An accident early in life sent this child down the medical rabbit hole.
An eleven-year-old boy presented for evaluation and therapy. His mother related his unusual life story.
He had a good birth and was a happy baby. But, at nine months, an event dramatically changed his life.
After his mother put him on the kitchen counter and turned her back for a moment, he fell to the floor. She took him to the ER for evaluation, and later he developed a large goose-egg (hematoma) on his forehead. From that point on, his health deteriorated.
He had two sets of ear tubes and separately had his tonsil and adenoids out. He developed nasal and throat congestion with associated allergies.
His many childhood diagnoses included:
At three years and nine months—ADHD, sensory processing disorder, intellectual disability, respective and expressive language disorder, and a*t*sm spectrum disorder.
At age eight: cerebral palsy (he never crawled.).
At age ten: dyslexia and dyscalculia.
When his dad passed away, he developed PTSD, resulting in many school behavioral issues. He was taking many meds to help with his symptoms.
He complained to every doctor about pain in his right shoulder. No one, including his physical therapists, had an answer.
I found that he had a zero-second brain cycle and fascial strain down his neck into his right shoulder. I had never seen a shoulder quadrant where the fascial tissue was literally stuck. When I connected the dots of his history, everything started to make sense in the following hypothesis:
He never crawled because he injured his shoulder in the fall. His lack of movement “logically” directed doctors to a cerebral palsy diagnosis.
The fall created a zero-second brain cycle that pointed the doctors to many of his other diagnoses. The congestion and allergies were probably due to the fascial tightness in his head, throat, neck, and shoulder.
None of his providers asked the question, “What was the root cause of his problem?” Following the principles of the mainstream allopathic medical profession, they just tried to Band-Aid his symptoms with medications.
The Gillespie Approach aims to unearth the root cause of a problem and help the body heal it. Our therapy unleashes the true power of the body to authentically correct itself.
I started the visit with his right shoulder, which presented with some unique strains. When his brain cycle climbed to 50 seconds, I knew that his shoulder strain was directly connected through the fascial web to his cognitive difficulty.
After I worked his neck for a number of sessions, his brain cycle opened to an amazing 110 seconds at the end of the first visit. It seemed like his body was just waiting for someone to tap into its healing potential.
Mom reported after the first visit that he felt pain relief in his arm. I expect that he will slowly improve as his body goes through the healing process. The goal is to return it to its normal function experienced during his first nine months.
I believe that his life would have been completely different with therapy directly after the accident. Gillespie Approach Training is needed to help providers in these unusual situations.
