The Childhood Ramifications of Untreated Infant Arching

A Therapist Mother Emailed Me

“My seven-year-old son was born with a severe tongue tie, torticollis, and plagiocephaly. He also had ‘scoliosis‘ with a lump on the right side of his spine. The MRI was negative, and it appeared to be caused by a significant torsion within his body. He was stuck in the right side of my womb for six months.

He has had cranial, visceral, and osteopathy since he was one week old. He has had more hands-on therapy than any one I know. He has had five tongue-tie releases. He arched terribly as a baby and was in so much pain. There was so much pressure in his head that it pained me to look at him.

He has always been behind developmentally and didn’t walk until 18 months old. He still has many of his primitive reflexes unintegrated even though we have been working on them for almost two years.

We constantly do bodywork, but it only scratches the surface of his pain and restrictions. It took hours to feed him as his diaphragm was so tight. He has a restriction in his left pelvic floor that is pulling up to his head and probably his throat. I was so excited to read your blog about an arching baby. You were describing my son.”

Dr. Barry Gillespie Speaks

My heart breaks for this family. God bless all the people who did fine work with him. I was one of them until I discovered the critical importance of arching. I go nuts saying that the arching needs to clear before any pathology clears.

The arching was probably caused by being hyperextended over her liver for six months in utero. The arching and torsion are a double whammy indicating a potential longer correction.

Five tongue-tie releases—wow. I love this mom because she never gave up on her child. I told her today not to give up hope. In my mind, his conditions are still doable. I recommended a therapist in her area.
