Astigmatism

A twelve-year-old girl presented with astigmatism. Her history was uneventful with an emergency appendectomy and orthodontics. She was generally healthy and was not wearing an orthodontic retainer to restrict her brain motion.

She had a 140-second brain cycle because she had previously worked with a craniosacral therapist. Her body felt clear of strain except for her neck.

When I connected the neck strain to her right eye, the fascia was pulling into that eye. When I connected the neck strain to the left eye, the fascia was pulling much harder into that eye. The appendix scar was not affecting either eye.

The child had been diagnosed in Europe with astigmatism. The doctor similarly said the left eye was more affected but had no solution other than recommending not wearing glasses.

She had an excellent first visit of therapy where a lot of strain released in each eye. Her mother noted that, during the treatment, her face became quite red as the strain was pulling into the superficial fascia directly below the facial epithelium.

At the end of the visit, I noted that her neck muscles were tight and told mom to schedule a visit with a local massage therapist. Since muscle cells are an important component of the myofascial complex, deep muscle work can help in the healing.

In a later email, mom happily reported that her daughter was seeing colors a lot brighter and clearer. I will continue to work with her until the strain is completely released.

One of the items on my wish list is that global vision professionals consider the eyes as part of the craniosacral fascial system. Any unresolved fascial trauma can strain the web where one part of the body will pull on another part, even the eyes.

I believe the application of this concept will transform the eye profession. Gillespie Approach Training is a great tool to have in the therapeutic toolbox.
