A Bicornuate Uterus Infant

A mother's three-month-old checked all of the fussy boxes—poor latching, reflux, colic, gas, indigestion, and constipation. He was an archer and always tightly held his fists.

Mom had frequent bleeding in the first trimester, and he was delivered via cesarean section at thirty-five weeks. He also had the cord wrapped around his shoulders.

The overriding factor was that mom had a bicornuate uterus. AI defines it as the uterus being divided into two separate cavities, known as horns, with one cervix.

This anomaly is found in about one in 50 women. Mom said that he developed within the right space.

Years ago, I saw a similar young woman who had many difficult issues and needed about thirty hours of therapy to clear her extreme tightness. I was happy to work with this infant now without the strains becoming entrenched and much more difficult to correct.

Mom had taken him to a chiropractor for many sessions with limited success. Chiropractic can be helpful for infants, but not in this situation.

I have found that the powerful fascial web cannot be adjusted. Since it can pull at 2,000 pounds per square inch, it has a mind of its own.

He had a terrific first visit where his arching improved and his entire fascial web started to release nicely. He left the office with a brain cycle of 100 seconds, and I expect him to do well with continued therapy.

A telling factor was that his hands were more relaxed at the end of the visit. When we work in the craniosacral fascial system where everything is connected to everything else, the hands can loosen without actually touching them.

I also see that phenomenon with children with asthma where the restrictions are deep in the lung air sacs. When the strains in the trunk release, the fascia affecting the smooth muscles of the air sacs can release also.

Please add bicornuate uterus to the potential list of issues in utero that can cause strain in a fetus. Gillespie Approach Training is a must for newborn providers.
