Lingering Eye Strain and Dizziness

Sometimes fascial strain can affect the delicate structures of the body.

A patient of 14 years recently had a bad car accident. A deer totaled her car on a highway, and she was fortunate to survive.

Her craniosacral fascial system was presenting with the classic whip (extension) and lash (flexion) injury. She normally had a brain cycle of around 240 seconds. She was very tight after the accident but finished the first visit at a great 100 seconds.

Keeping a permanent record of the brain cycle in the patient’s chart is a great feature of the Gillespie Approach. It allows the provider a gauge of how much a trauma has affected the craniosacral fascial system.

Over the next two visits, she did better with her symptoms and reached the 220-second level. She was also seeing her chiropractor, who practiced DNFT (Directional Non-Force Technique).

When I finished a session and loosened the tissue, the chiropractor easily moved a vertebra(e) back to its normal position. After my first session, the doctor was able to put the previously stuck C1/C2 in her neck back in place.

This patient was the canary in the coal mine, the very sensitive soul who felt everything. She was now presenting with some vague eye strain and dizziness.

She was working with an eye therapist for the former and a balance physical therapist for the latter. I was fine with that program but was specifically looking for the root cause of these issues.

Her trauma imprinted a specific strain in her overall body. I very delicately checked each eye and ear and felt the same embedded strain but in miniature version in each area. When these areas released on that visit, her brain cycle ended at 280 seconds, her best level ever.

A major trauma in the body can affect every cell in the fascial web. As therapists, please do not forget the sensitive cells involved with the second cranial nerve (eyesight) and the eighth cranial nerve (balance and hearing).

I expect her to do well moving forward. Gillespie Approach Training allows providers to think differently and reach new therapeutic heights.
