Measuring the Brain Cycle

I believe what differentiates the Gillespie Approach from other craniosacral approaches is measuring and recording the brain cycle. It tells me where I am in therapy at each visit by giving me a strong indication regarding the freedom of the craniosacral fascial system. It also tells me how well the brain is responding to therapy. Once a patient gets up around a 200 second brain cycle, I stop measuring the cycle and focus on the body fully releasing the fascial web.You can do CFT fine without feeling cranial and sacral movement. I know some students leave the Gillespie Approach Foundation Trainings and Gillespie Approach Infant Trainings without complete confidence in this skill. It is something that may require continual practice. If you stay at it, eventually you will just feel the speed of the expansion and contraction and estimate the brain cycle in the hundreds. I feel that it is well worth mastering as a great tool in patient care.

Dr. Barry Gillespie

Dr. Barry Gillespie founded Gillespie Approach–Craniosacral Fascial Therapy, which provides patients with a freely moving brain, spinal cord and fascial web, all critical to optimal health. Dr. Barry Gillespie also created the Baby Brain Score and discovered effective therapeutic techniques for newborns and infants.
