Severe Reflux

A mother happily related that her newborn nursed so well. And then he threw it all up. When the nurse said that he should not be doing that, her journey for an answer began.

A Mother Writes

"I hesitated to let anyone hold my son for fear that he would cover them in spit up. Holding him always came with a dish towel (because a burp cloth was never enough) and a warning: 'He will throw up. You won’t hear it coming, and I’m sorry in advance.’

Every medical professional I spoke with told me that it was normal reflux since there was no 'failure to thrive,’ but it was becoming a hassle because their answer was always medicine. My gut told me it was not normal, especially since newly introduced solid foods came back up, too. A friend, also a chiropractor and fellow mom, agreed it wasn’t normal and encouraged me to see Dr. Gillespie."

Dr. Barry Gillespie Writes

A six-month-old boy presented with vomiting every (yes every) day of his life. He was breech with no other contributing factors. He had a good brain cycle, but the fascia in the area of his lower esophageal sphincter was bound down.

He had tightness throughout his diaphragm from his belly around to his back. I assumed that was pulling on his lower esophageal sphincter.

After four therapy visits, mom said he had his first day of not throwing up. She did not tell anyone to jinx it, less the gods of reflux would be angered.

She said that quiet period stretched to three days in a row. Wow. I expect him to do well as the layers of strain clear from his traumatic onion and possibly preventing a lifetime of GERD.

Birth trauma needs to be acknowledged and addressed on day one. It is time for the world to wake up and realize that many newborns are not truly “healthy."

Dr. Barry Gillespie

Dr. Barry Gillespie founded Gillespie Approach–Craniosacral Fascial Therapy, which provides patients with a freely moving brain, spinal cord and fascial web, all critical to optimal health. Dr. Barry Gillespie also created the Baby Brain Score and discovered effective therapeutic techniques for newborns and infants.
