Swallowing and Birth Trauma

Swallowing is easily taken for granted, until we cannot swallow.

A soon-to-be three-year-old boy has never had solid food because he cannot swallow any food. He has survived on liquids—organic whole milk and protein shakes—for his entire life.

He had breastfeeding issues as mom used a nipple shield. One year ago, he had tongue and lip tie surgery, but that was not the answer.

He had extensive gastrointestinal examination and testing with reflux biopsies—all normal. He had the gamut of ear, nose and throat examination and testing—all normal. He went to a special feeding hospital with no positive results. The family was at their wits end.

He presented with a zero-second brain cycle and severe throat and neck fascial strain. I found that the posterior neck strain was pulling into his throat, oral structures, and nasal area. That could also explain his mouth breathing and constant gagging. Otherwise, his body’s web was remarkably quiet.

The first visit was rough. He was crying when I tapped into his neck fascial strain. When his mother held his throat and I held the back of his neck, he screamed that we were choking him, and he could not breathe.

Since we were just holding his neck, that reaction was purely revisiting his fascial strain from birth trauma. Even though his birth was three years ago, the fascial web was still holding that tightness, possibly for a lifetime.

Mom connected the therapeutic dots with me as I held his neck while she touched each oral structure. The web continued to release nicely, and he left with a sixty-second brain cycle, a great first visit. I am hoping he will respond well to future therapy.

In my perfect world, all of his needed therapy would have been done at birth. As the global suffering for the collective continues, I am patiently waiting for everyone to catch up.
