I can't hold my adjustment - man outside - Gillespie Approach–Craniosacral Fascial Therapy

“I Can’t Hold My Adjustment.”

Sometimes authentic healing involves more than solely adjusting bones.

A twenty-eight-year-old man presented with neck and shoulder pain. He had cognitive issues, fatigue, TMJ clicking, and occasional headaches.

He had neck surgery three months ago to strengthen his neck ligaments. His main complaint was that he could not hold his atlas adjustment.

At ten, he fell out of a treehouse and injured his neck. He also had a traumatic birth. On the plus side, he had a clean diet (no sugar, grains, or dairy) and lifestyle.

As a possible complication to therapy, he had a severe case of Lyme disease. He contracted it in 2014 and was compromised for eight years.

He presented with a zero-second brain cycle and a distinct fascial trunk twist. I felt that therapy could help him but was unsure if lingering Lyme would raise its ugly head in therapy.

Sometimes when the fascial web releases, the bacteria awaken to reproduce and create havoc. We will have to see if that is the case.

I helped him work out that counterclockwise trunk twist in therapy. Immediately, he went into a second strain consisting of a clockwise trunk twist. I could then easily see why his shoulders and neck were so tight.

He ended the visit with an eighty-second brain cycle. He also remarked that his upper body was notably looser, a hallmark of a Gillespie Approach first visit.

He had found an atlas chiropractor who had given him the most relief. But since he could not hold his adjustment, he traveled out of state as needed for the past ten years for readjustment.

I have seen this phenomenon for decades, and this is my hypothesis. The fascial web touches every cell of the body, including every osteocyte (bone cell). So instead of each vertebra or bone being a separate entity in the body, each is a part of and controlled by the fascial web.

If a fascial strain involves the spine, it can easily pull a vertebra out of alignment. Fascial strain can pull up to 2,000 pounds per square inch.

An adjustment to a vertebra shifts the bone back into alignment. But because of the powerful force of the fascial web, many times the strain will pull it back out of alignment.

This phenomenon can continue indefinitely until one addresses the root of the problem. If therapy takes the fascial strain out of the spine, then an adjustment can hold more readily.

If this hypothesis is true, the Gillespie Approach and chiropractic could be a great combination for a better patient experience. I am hopeful that with continuing care, he will have a positive outcome.
