A lesson in connecting the dots for newborns: a newborn presented with a retruded jaw and was being considered for jaw extension surgery. He also had apnea with his tongue blocking his airway. After peeling a large onion for seven 30 minutes sessions, I believe the core of his problem was that the tight dorsal neck fascia that prohibited him from lifting his head up into extension was also retracting his mandible. When this fascia let go after a lot of jaw quivering, his jaw was able to move normally down and forward. For our baby providers, we are the book to learn this information.
