The Early Childhood Intervention System
I now see a monumental opportunity for the Early Childhood Intervention System. If you are not familiar with their work, this is their mission statement. “Early Childhood Intervention assures that families who have children ages birth to three, with diagnosed disabilities, developmental delays or substantial risk of significant delays receive resources and supports that assist them in maximizing their child’s development.”
Currently physical and occupational therapists evaluate and treat children after they have been diagnosed by a medical doctor. What if a team of these therapists worked at every hospital and did the Baby Brain Score (BBS) on every child? If there was a neurological problem, which would be true in many cases, they would do CFT visits while the newborn was in the hospital. Another team would continue CFT for the newborn with home visits (like they do now) in the first few weeks and later follow-up. So instead of long expensive care after the problems manifest, CFT therapists would immediately prevent many of the current issues.
This simple concept would be huge for the angst of the family. Instead of having to watch their child suffer (maybe for a lifetime), the family may never experience any issues at all because they were nipped in the bud. This is my dream; I am looking for people who believe what I believe.
