So often, moms are told that their infants will “grow out of” issues. My clinical experience is that the same fascial strains that caused the infant problems can later cause different diseases in childhood.
A nine-year-old presented with the following issues: poor attention span, difficulty in focusing, difficulty in concentrating, ADHD, anxiety, sleeping difficulty, constipation, picky eating, emotionally sensitive, difficulty in learning, and often spaced out.
As an infant, she had the complete package of a fussy baby: difficulty breastfeeding, colic, reflux, gas, and constipation. She also had trouble sleeping where she would scream in the middle of the night for no reason.
The birth history was noncontributory, which strongly suggested fetal trauma. Many times, fetuses are twisted or compressed in an unphysiologic position, resulting in fascial strain.
In the current medical system, no one is connecting the dots between the infant and childhood conditions. Pediatricians need to start looking at the root cause of conditions and not just gaslighting the parents and band-aiding the issues with medications.
On my examination, she had a zero-second brain cycle and severe tightness in her neck and throat fascia. Anytime that specific tightness presents, the therapist is certainly dealing with a patient with nervous system dysregulation where all of those childhood conditions can be in play.
So instead of looking at individual conditions, each with different treatments, we need to look at the totality of the child. This different way of thinking needs to be incorporated into the pediatric medical model.
Connecting the dots in space and time is so important to understand the root cause of these problems. Soft tissue birth trauma from in utero, labor, and delivery during those 40 weeks can cause difficulty in breastfeeding, colic, reflux, gas, and constipation.
Left untreated, these same fascial strains can result in a poor attention span, difficulty in focusing, difficulty in concentrating, ADHD, anxiety, sleeping difficulty, constipation, a picky eater, emotionally sensitive, difficulty in learning, and often spaced out.
Pediatricians need to look at the child in time where happenings during those 40 weeks can be so critical to the quality of one’s life. Once they realize this phenomenon, I believe the preventative work at birth will become mandatory for every newborn.
She had a terrific first visit where her craniosacral fascial system opened beautifully to 130 seconds. I expect that a happier child will be unfolding in the next few visits.
