Chronic headaches at twelve - girl draped over patio railing - Gillespie Approach–Craniosacral Fascial Therapy

Chronic Headaches at Twelve

If you have chronic headaches at twelve years of age, how will these headaches affect the rest of your life?

A twelve-year-old girl presented with chronic headaches, rounded shoulders, and neck and shoulder stiffness. She had vision therapy for two years and had difficulty focusing and concentrating in school.

She had four concussions in her life. When she fractured her skull at two, she spent five days in the hospital. At four, she hit her head on the driveway and immediately vomited.

At ten, she fell on the ice while skating and vomited. A few weeks ago, she hit her head again while skating.

Her parents had taken her to many health professionals without any resolution. In my view, they did not look at the function of this child’s craniosacral fascial system.

She had the expected zero-second brain cycle and a tight neck and shoulders. She had the look of someone who was not present; a tight head can result in that distant gaze visage.

In therapy, she had neck arching, strain down into her back, and a trunk twist. Her brain cycle ended at 100 seconds, a great first visit.

When I rechecked her muscles, they were still tight. I told her parents to have deep-tissue massage visits for her until the therapist said she was done and then return to me.

My work generally goes quicker if the muscles are also loose. The general theme of the Gillespie Approach is that tight bodies have trouble functioning well.

For some patients, our work can be life-changing. Gillespie Approach Training can help providers give exceptional service to their patients.
