I Am Continually Fighting My Ego

In my work, I am continually fighting my ego. I am writing this essay so new providers can learn from my experiences.

In the 1970s, I was consumed by my ego in therapy, and, by 1980, I was failing miserably. I decided to let go of my ego and just help the body heal itself. That made a world of difference and removed great patient expectations where I was not required to heal or fix them.

But the ego kept crawling back into my consciousness in the '80s as I was making discoveries about pediatric asthma, earaches, headaches, and ADHD. Every time I thought I was somebody, I had to let go of that thought.

When many great outcomes occurred with brain-injured children, I had to work to let go. I was also over the moon with the six years of Lancaster infant research and all of its seminal discoveries.

I learned a good way to let go of my ego was to realize how grateful I was to have had those opportunities to uncover nature’s secrets in children. The infant work was especially a unique lifetime experience.

My role now is to be the facilitator of the work, observe the outcomes, and write about the more interesting ones for the world to read on the Internet. My office role is to help you revisit your past traumas to free up your body. If you say that I fixed or cured you, I just helped to loosen your body and you healed yourself (or God healed you, if you prefer.)

My feeling today, as our Trainings are expanding across America, is how lucky I am to have had this lifetime opportunity to help so many others. At almost 77, I am also grateful to be healthy enough to still be in the game. My gratitude is replacing my ego.

When parents are working with their children, it is so critical of them to let go of their egos. I found that to be the most effective, just listen to the body and be present and clear.
