In our infant research we saw babies with narrow palates which can cause crowded teeth later in life. With most infants, CFT widened the palate, surprisingly sometimes within minutes, theoretically creating more room for the adult teeth to erupt into the jaws and align correctly. This approach may avoid palatal expanders and complex orthodontics down the road. We also relieved the strain in the TMJ and other oral areas for a more balanced future bite.
We also wondered if maxillary birth trauma created a problem creating twisting of the teeth. Fascia connects to each bone cell and a strain may twist a tooth bud.
The fascia in the jaw bones may also hold the memory of years of orthodontic trauma and can pull the teeth back into the old pre-orthodontic position. This may also be the reason why children have to wear a retainer at the end of orthodontics to keep the teeth at the new position. Unfortunately the retainer may restrict maxillary motion and take the brain cycle to zero.
