A mom recently posted: “I recommended CFT on another group, and someone intercepted and deleted my comment, saying that CFT has been ‘debunked’ and that there is no real evidence that it works. Surely this can’t be true if so many people have seen benefits?”
I completely understand there are skeptics in the world. I was one of them in the 1970s. I was taught that the bones in the head were fused together. I thought that there was no way cranial work could have any effect on my headaches. The whole experience turned out to be “life changing” for me.
There are different ways to look at a proof. Some people believe that a scientific theory must go through a number of medical randomized, controlled, and double-blind studies to be true. We cannot do that gold standard approach for a long list of reasons.
Another way is to see if what we do works. In almost 50 years of clinical practice and research, it strongly appears to me and countless others that birth trauma creates fascial tightness in babies that makes them fussy. In searching for a solution to this problem, I created a massage technique to help loosen them so they can become calmer and more relaxed.
This makes sense to everyone, and it seems to work consistently well. In a nutshell, tight people can have trouble functioning well. When their fascial web loosens up, they can function better.
So, if you are a mother with a baby who is breastfeeding poorly, screaming at night with colic, throwing up constantly with reflux, having gas and indigestion, and having a bowel movement every five days, you can wait for the scientific research to come out or you can see if therapy works now for your baby.
Someday there will be research studies about our work. Until then, we will attract those people who see that our approach can be safe and effective.
