Picture yourself at five years of age. Your loving parents have provided for all your material needs. A great life is ahead except that you have:
- Belly pain every day. You had a history of constipation as an infant, and you have not “grown out of” that abdominal fascial tightness.
- Nonstop coughing (since birth). On my examination, there was profound fascial restriction of the diaphragm. Often times, hiccupping and burping difficulty will accompany this issue.
- Headaches. At your birth, doctors performed a vacuum extraction assisted delivery, which mom said left a permanent bump on your head. You presented at my office with a zero-second brain cycle. Extraction may have been a necessary procedure, but the Gillespie Approach should have been instituted immediately afterward.
- A teeth-grinding condition. Your tight fascial web was probably causing you to grind your teeth.
- Spinal pain. There was a fascial twist in your trunk, which was probably the root of the problem.
- Leg pain. Commonly diagnosed “growing pains” need to be differentiated from restricted fascia.
- A scratchy throat. Fasical strain can cause a tight throat. Often there is no infection on examination but just the appearance of inflamed tissue.
- Nose pain. Fascial strain from the neck can pull into the face.
What happens at birth is critical to one’s quality-of-life experience. Without therapy now, what does the future hold for this child?
If therapy had been done at birth, I believe a lot of suffering could have been prevented. Gillespie Approach Training is a must for all newborn providers.
