“Why don’t I feel any different after five visits?”
Occasionally an adult will relate this fair question to you in your clinical practice.
For some patients, the root of their condition may be at the core of their onion of trauma. As an adult, it may take a number of visits to get to those deeper layers.
The average fussy baby needs between five and eight visits of therapy to clear their birth trauma. Now picture an adult who has had many traumas over a lifetime. In authentic healing, their body may present the causative layers later in therapy.
Gillespie Approach has no “healing-on-demand” option. If a patient comes in with headaches, I cannot access just that headache layer and help the body release it. I am only listening to the body and trusting that it knows best how to release its interconnected layers in its own space and time.
This woman presented with an additional issue. For the first five visits, she was dealing with her infant arching and twisting strains—ouch. The arching needed to be worked through before the body can fully heal itself. So I could understand how she felt no improvement.
On the sixth visit, her back arch and neck and trunk twist were thankfully gone, leaving only her neck arch. That strain was fiercely pulling from her upper back into her neck, jaw, eyes, and head.
Once this strain is worked out, I expect that she may feel relief. If not, there are probably deeper layers of strain that the body will address in time.
When patients present on their first visit, I have no idea how many layers are in their traumatic onion. I just peel them as the body presents and trust in its innate wisdom to correct itself. My ultimate goal is for the craniosacral fascial system to be strain-free.
Gillespie Approach Training can unlock the healing door for patients. Ultimately, the work needs to be done at birth to prevent many lifetime conditions.
