In 2008, I had the opportunity to follow a child from birth to her present teenage years.
The parents had been pleased with the results of therapy for their first three children. When mom became pregnant again, we all planned to “do it right” with the work done as early as possible.
The first time I saw the newborn, in October 2008, I did a Baby Brain Score resulting in the score of five. After I did a session on the baby, her brain cycle went to 100 seconds, and the Baby Brain Score climbed to a perfect eight.
I did two more sessions to clear as much birth strain as possible. She was good to go until 2011, when she fell down the stairs and required three visits to clear that strain. In 2013, she needed a check-up visit when a tooth was in question.
For eleven years, from the time she was five to sixteen, she did not need a visit with me. Her mother said that she was her healthiest child where she literally never went to the pediatrician. As a matter of fact, the pediatrician never even knew that she had a fourth child because she never needed to go—a great testimonial for the work at birth.
But recently the teen developed unexplained pain in her hands and feet. The parents unsuccessfully took her to many alternative practitioners. They eventually saw a medical doctor, who diagnosed an autoimmune disease and prescribed anti-inflammatory medication.
The parents questioned that diagnosis because she had been so healthy all of her life. I also questioned it because many times if medical practitioners do not know the root cause of a problem, they tend to lump it into a catch-all disease basket like autoimmune disease, fibromyalgia, or tongue tie.
Because of that diagnosis, her parents embarked on a strict organic whole foods regimen and eliminated all junk food, dairy, wheat, seed oils, and sugar. Even that dramatic change did not move the symptomatic needle for her.
When the parents finally brought her to me, I found fascial strain in her wrists, hands, and feet. It turned out that, earlier in her life, she enjoyed gymnastics. She especially loved backward flips where her hands and wrists landed hard in a strained position. When she uprighted herself from this position, she landed hard on her feet. After a few years passed, those strains apparently manifested into symptoms. Voila!
The soft tissues released well on the first visit, and she felt tremendous relief. Because of the repetitive nature of the strain creating many layers of restriction, some of the pain returned. I expect that she will do well when her onion is fully peeled.
The medical model was quick to go down the chemical allopathic road without connecting the dots of her earlier gymnastic activity to her present condition. I told the family the diet change was a gift and strongly suggested to continue that lifestyle for their good health.
I am excited to have the world discover our work with newborns. I believe we offer a huge potential to improve global health. Gillespie Approach Training is so needed for all newborn providers.
