Many patients present with a zero-second brain cycle where a provider may feel slight brain activity. A few present in a locked-down mode where the entire craniosacral fascial system is dead still.
A woman presented with “anxiety and always in a flight-or-fight mode.” As a healthcare professional, she said she has been in sympathetic nervous system mode ever since she can remember.
Upon hearing that statement, I assume severe birth trauma set her up for a lifetime of conditions. She had difficulty sleeping, ringing in her left ear, and tightness in her neck and shoulders, as starters.
When I held her head, I felt no motion. When I checked for fascial strain in her body, I could feel nothing. Her craniosacral fascial system was in total locked-down mode.
If my birth trauma assumption is correct, she has never experienced complete parasympathetic nervous system mode. She has tried many relaxation techniques but has never really felt true calm and peace.
Plato’s famous allegory of the cave comes to mind when infant prisoners were chained to a wall for life and were only exposed to the “reality” of moving shadows. All she had known was a life of flight or fight.
In therapy, I performed the frontal technique where I just waited for the frontal bone to move. Once it started to open, her dural meninges softened and the brain started to expand and contract. After almost fifty years of restriction, her brain still responded positively—amazing.
Now the fascial web was awakened, and the session continued normally as her brain cycle opened to 40 seconds. She could feel all of the changes in her head and felt a little calmer leaving the office.
I expect her life to change significantly with the completion of therapy. Unfortunately, I believe there are many more people on the planet in her shoes.
The work at birth is so critical to prevent a lifetime of suffering. All birth providers need Gillespie Approach Training so every newborn can have a great start in life.
The Patient Speaks
“My therapists at a brain center could see that my muscle tension had dramatically increased from my previous sessions, which is testimony to yesterday’s work. I do feel calm. I slept very well.
“I am actually going to continue to rest and enjoy this moment of calm and peace. I’m not working today and will not go to the gym. I will take a walk in nature. I’m very excited and hopeful to continue our work together.”
