Moms are smart—they know their child better than anyone.
A thirteen-year-old boy presented with severe asthma. He was born at 35 weeks with a collapsed lung. He was vented and had a CPAP machine during his two weeks in the NICU.
When he had reflux as an infant, he was on adult medication. He was currently on asthmatic drugs. He was also a gagger and had swallowing issues.
His mother believed that his birth history with breathing problems was related to his current asthma. His doctors emphatically said there was no correlation. In my mind, this mom, who had no medical education, was smarter than the best doctors from the best medical schools and hospitals.
He presented with a 40-second brain cycle and fascial strain from his diaphragm, lower esophageal sphincter (LES), tracheobronchial tree, right lung, throat, into his mouth. He required orthodontic work, but his respiratory therapy needed to be completed first.
The curve ball in this story was that he definitely had the v*irus once and possibly twice. Because it attacked his respiratory tract hard, I am not sure how well these tissues will heal with therapy.
In 2021, the v*irus attacked all of the weak areas of my body, especially my throat and head. I had a childhood history of chronic earaches, tinnitus, sore throats, colds, and the like.
Consequently, after the v*irus abated, I had more tinnitus and hearing loss. In addition, I completely lost my senses of taste and smell.
I told his parents that I will do therapy to free up his body, which usually creates a corrective result for asthma, and hope that the v*iral respiratory damage is not a factor. After the first visit, his brain cycle opened to 120 seconds, a strong positive response from his body.
In my world, he should have had therapy at birth to prevent this whole scenario. Someday, the world will get this concept and a lot of suffering will end. We are blessed.
Mom Speaks
Over the last two years, ENT specialists at a major children’s hospital have assessed my son due to concerns about his enlarged tonsils and difficulties with swallowing. While I was not pushing for a tonsillectomy, I was curious if removing the tonsils could potentially alleviate his swallowing difficulties and provide him some relief. They concluded that surgery was not necessary, noting that while the enlarged tonsils could be affecting his swallowing, these issues would likely improve as the tonsils returned to their normal size.
In addition to these evaluations, he has participated in several muscle testing sessions with my acupuncturist to address various sensitivities, including those to dairy, corn, and environmental allergens. He also receives regular chiropractic care.
Pulmonologists have determined that his baseline lung function was at 70%. They have yet to identify the reasons behind the fluctuations in his lung function that have been noted during his appointments.
“When I inquire about the root cause of his problem, the medical team often suggests new tests and medication options. Most recently, he was tested for cystic fibrosis, and the results were negative, which I had anticipated since my research indicated he did not exhibit any of the associated symptoms or markers.
He also underwent extensive lab testing to explore whether environmental allergies might be contributing to his reduced lung function. But to the doctors’ surprise, all results came back negative.
Both of my children displayed heightened asthmatic symptoms around the time they entered puberty, which leads me to suspect that hormonal changes might be influencing their conditions. I raised this concern with the medical team, but it was dismissed. It seems rather unusual that both children received asthma diagnoses around the same age, between 12 and 14.
Since he has lost 25 pounds, I have noticed some improvement in his stamina, and his episodes of feeling “out of breath” appear to have decreased somewhat, although they still occur. He continues to rely on inhalers.
As an infant and toddler, he experienced projectile vomiting whenever he became upset or cried. I raised this concern multiple times with medical professionals, as it felt abnormal to me and I worried about the risk of aspiration. He was under the care of GI specialists for an extended period, during which various medications were tried to address the issue.
From one month old, his bottles consisted of a mixture of half rice cereal and half specialized formula to manage his reflux. We continued bottle feeding until he was two years old to ensure he received adequate nutrition. Additionally, he was considered lactose intolerant as a child, so we primarily maintained a dairy-free diet, with occasional exceptions.
Ultimately, he outgrew this behavior, but his eating habits remained limited. He has always been a picky eater, adhering to a very restricted diet that he could tolerate.
He expressed that for the first time since having his first treatment with Dr. Barry, he feels his throat is more open and his swallowing has become easier. This is a significant improvement, and I am thrilled to hear it!
