Manual Rotation at Birth

When a six-year-old girl presented with headaches, it took my breath away for a moment. I realized this patient might have to suffer with head pain for the rest of her life.

She also had nausea, lower back pain, cognitive issues, and tight calves. The eye doctor said her eyes were fine, and the neurologist said the MRI was normal—”just migraines, probably genetic.”

Imagine as a parent you hear that your child at six just has migraines. In addition, doctors from a large children’s hospital diagnosed her with autism. That is a lot of negative news for a family to process.

I am looking for the root cause of her problem and not trying to put a label on it. Clinically, she had a zero-second brain cycle, but her fascial web was loose. That suggested head trauma sometime in her life severely restricted her brain motion.

It is critical for the provider to go through the history to find the answer. There was no lifetime causative trauma except for her delivery. She presented sunny-side-up (occipital posterior) with the cord wrapped—two huge red flags.

The midwife elected to manually rotate the head to expedite delivery. I understand that may have been medically necessary, but the provider must later check the newborn’s brain motion.

I am assuming her brain cycle went to zero seconds due to this procedure. As a young girl, she has probably suffered needlessly every day from something that was not her doing.

Currently, the medical profession does not acknowledge the fact that soft tissue trauma during the first 40 weeks has anything to do with any lifetime condition(s). In their minds, every newborn is perfect at birth—that philosophy has to change.

Clinically, I started with the frontal-occipital release technique, and she opened to an amazing 130 seconds by the end of the visit. I expect, with more therapy, that the headaches will go away and am hopeful that the other issues will start to improve.

Mom is looking into the Feingold diet—an excellent choice for special-needs children. I remember Dr. Feingold in the 1970s saying that chemicals in the food can strongly contribute to disease. He was way ahead of his time as this holds true today with 350,000 new chemicals on the planet.

What happens during those 40 weeks after conception is critical to one’s quality of life. Let mitigate the trauma right away at the birth to prevent future suffering. Gillespie Approach Training is a must for all newborn providers.
