An adult is currently peeling her Gillespie Approach–Craniosacral Fascial Therapy onion back to the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck. On each visit a red ring arises around her throat from the pressure of the cord. The markings are dissipating over the therapy visits and are expected to clear in time.
At one visit a distinct red scratch mark near the cord imprint appeared unexpectedly. It went away with therapy on that visit. Since the fetal nails reach the ends of the fingers at thirty-two weeks, an interesting theory presents: Did the fetus desperately try to release the cord from her neck and scratch herself? I find it fascinating how the craniosacral fascial system perfectly holds the memory of trauma.
If I ruled the world, every newborn would have continuous therapy after birth until his/her hospital discharge. Every baby would need to demonstrate proper latching, sucking, swallowing, digesting, metabolizing, and pooping while in the hospital. The ultimate goal is for every baby to go home as a happy baby.
