While I often see infants with digestive issues, I want to focus on the importance of the liver. AI states, “The liver performs over 500 vital functions, primarily filtering toxins, producing bile for digestion, regulating blood sugar, making proteins (like clotting factors), and storing nutrients; it’s a central metabolic organ that processes nutrients, detoxifies the blood, and helps fight infection, making it crucial for metabolism, immunity, and waste removal.”
A fussy three-week-old presents with reflux, gas, colic, wheezing, nasal congestion, poor sleeping, and strabismus. She also was an archer.
Mom had a history of preeclampsia, high blood pressure, and gestational diabetes. The fetus was born fast, sunny side up.
She presented with a zero-second brain cycle, and her fascial strain was concentrated in her small intestine, digestive organs, diaphragm, and lungs. I hypothesize that the fascial strain below her neck was pulling on her cranial tissues.
After the first visit, the restricted areas began to release well as the brain cycle opened to 90 seconds. Mom and dad noticed some improvement at home.
On the second visit, I felt that the tissues were still tight on her right side in the area of her liver. I spent a lot of time here helping the body to free up the organ’s tissues.
Every cell of every organ is connected in the fascial web. The strain needs to be fully released for any organ to function optimally.
A few days before the visit, dad felt that she was tight in that area also. At the end of the session, she was noticeably looser and more relaxed in mom’s arms with a 160-second brain cycle. I told dad if he was ever unhappy with his job, please become a therapist!
The general theme of the Gillespie Approach is that tight fussy babies become loose happy babies. If we dig deeper, we can be more specific with organs and begin to connect the dots on how the entire body needs to work well as one unit.
I expect her to do fine with more therapy. Gillespie Approach Training is a must for newborn and infant providers.
