A mom emails: “My 10-week-old son has been fairly fussy from day one, not inconsolable, but definitely doesn’t seem happy. He always has his fists clenched, and he straightens his body into a plank position often. He just never seems relaxed. I feel like the majority of his day involves screaming and crying to where he loses his voice. His pediatrician said this is normal for infants his age, but it’s hard for me to see him so uncomfortable and upset.”
When I read that last sentence, I felt like I wanted to shout out our message a little louder. After twelve years of focusing on the infant approach, we still have work to do.
Our goal is to change this mindset by telling the world that all newborns should be checked/treated to be happy. As Mike Myers said, if baby is not happy, mom is not happy. If mom is not happy, no one in the family is happy.
