I have learned a lot as a practitioner over 40 plus years.
In the ’70s, I would try to “fix” a patient with their specific condition like a headache or neck ache. Dentists are taught to “fix” things like teeth and gums. Sometimes that approach worked for a while; other times, not at all. I soon realized that to be successful in this field, that philosophy had to evolve. Over time my thought process has now centered around healing in the space-time continuum.
I discovered that many adult/child conditions are rooted in birth trauma. I help that patient peel their lifetime traumas with the goal of revisiting the physical and emotional aspects of their traumatic birth. Once these deepest layers clear, I am more confident of authentic healing.
The most important work is done with the powerless and voiceless. As a newborn, no one ever asks you if you want forceps, vacuum suction, mercurial eye drops, vitamin K, circumcision, medication, et al. You are completely dependent on adults making responsible choices.
I try to mentally connect with every baby before therapy by recognizing their fussiness is due to trauma. “My job is to facilitate your healing by listening to your craniosacral fascial strain patterns. I am here to help you release these in-utero-labor-delivery traumas so that you will not have to suffer from their effects for the rest of your life.”
The great thing about working with a newborn/infant is that you are immediately facing their trauma(s). As you gently hold their body, their strains literally stretch out in your hands as infant driven movement.
The Gillespie Approach can result in calmer and more relaxed babies, who can breathe, nurse, digest, poop, and nap optimally. For hospital births, every family needs to take home a happy baby. That is the goal for the world’s unborn.
