When a child has an eye problem, please monitor both eyes during the Gillespie Approach visits.
A four-year-old presents with strabismus. His right eye moves in when he looks at something close or is tired. His left eye appears to be normal. The ophthalmologist told his mother this problem will only get worse.
On evaluation, his neck fascia was pulling hard on just his right eye. The logical treatment plan would be just to help the body release the fascia pulling on that eye for complete correction. But in the Gillespie Approach you let the body tell you what it needs to do at that moment to heal itself.
At the third visit his right eye was calmer, but his neck strain was shifting to his left eye. This “new” strain was always present, but buried deeper in his traumatic birth onion. As his right eye cleared with therapy, this left eye strain came forward. The goal is for both eyes to be strain-free to function correctly.
In my world this issue would have been identified with the Baby Brain Score (BBS) and corrected with craniosacral fascial therapy (CFT) at birth. With early prevention, strabismus would not have been on the radar screen.
