An infant was born last January at a major medical center in the Mid-Atlantic area with an extremely retruded or pushed-back lower jaw. The doctors were seriously considering doing jaw surgery on the newborn to bring the jaw down and forward. As you can imagine, that was quite disturbing to the first-time parents….not great news. They decided to see holistic practitioners locally and were also referred to me by a TMJ dentist in Baltimore. I found that severe craniosacral fascial strain was holding the jaw back in the skull. I do not tell parents what to do, but suggested that we do CFT/IDM over a series of visits to try to avoid the surgery. They agreed and we did that……I saw the child today at around 5 months and his jaw was perfect. The hospital docs agreed too. When I put my finger in his mouth, he gave me a strong bite too…ouch. My suggestion to everyone is to please try CFT/IDM as a conservative approach before jaw surgery is done.
