The young man who had a difficult forceps birth is now experiencing pain in his left second premolar area. By connecting the dots, the birth trauma that showed in his baby pictures is now extending into his left maxillary bone. The teeth are fine, but the bone cells, which are all connected into the fascial web, are holding the memory of that forceps delivery. The onion is peeling in space and time. When I began my career as a periodontist forty years ago, I wondered why patients would have dental pain for no reason. The dental profession called it referred pain. For some, it is all about revisiting the birth.
