Three Short California Baby Stories

Note from Dr. Barry Gillespie: Thank you, Tori Matthews of Orange County, California, for sharing some short clinical “wins”:

A two-week-old baby, who was born at home with shoulder dystocia, presented with a lot of physical tension as well as tethered oral ties. He truly felt like a rock on that first visit. After his first Gillespie Approach–Craniosacral Fascial Therapy session, he was able to extend his neck back and really open up. After the fourth visit, he was like a brand new baby. He was less fussy, less rigid, and able to relax and simply be a baby. If this infant had not received this therapy, he would have likely continued to live with much discomfort.

I visited a four-week-old baby who had trouble achieving a good latch on his mother’s breast. This necessitated the use of a nipple shield during the entirety of each feeding. This baby was inconsolable between the hours of 8 and 10 pm, causing a lot of stress for the parents. After just one session of Gillespie Approach–Craniosacral Fascial Therapy, the mother was able to decrease the amount of feeding she used the nipple shield to only 10% of the time. It’s amazing what just a little prompting of the body to restructure the fascial web can do for the quality of life for a newborn and mother.

A four-week-old recently presented with some excessive gassiness and a preference for nursing on one side versus the other. She had a lot of tension on her left side as well as anterior tongue frenulum tightness. After I prompted her body to unwind its tight fascia, her mother noticed 24 hours later that her baby was much less gassy, now able to extend her neck, and no longer preferred only one side to nurse on. Just a few sessions of Gillespie Approach–Craniosacral Fascial Therapy can restore a more restful life for an infant.

Thank you, Gillespie Approach infant therapists, for your work. You are the masters of something new and pioneering something greater than yourself. This life-changing work can make you feel like all things are possible.
