Overlapping infant cranial bones - Gillespie Approach–Craniosacral Fascial Therapy

Overlapping Infant Cranial Bones

As for overlapping cranial bones, infants can respond well to therapy because the edges of their cranial plates are rounded, and their bones shift easily. At around five or six years of age, saw-tooth edges form and interdigitate to create sutures. There is still connective tissue or fascia here at the sutures, but the therapist is more limited in getting a desired result.

I would do therapy on any child at any age, but no promises to the parents. Again, my mantra is that every newborn must be checked and treated at birth—so many advantages—my vision for the planet. I believe these overlapping situations would then become rare or nonexistent.

###

Please do not forget that the infant cranial bones are part of the whole body fascial web. The entire body needs to be released to have the best cranial bone motion and position. Do not just work on the head to “fix” the head.

###

I question the current use of cranial helmets. The theory behind its use is that as the baby’s head is growing, the helmet can help mold the baby’s skull into a more normal shape. If a Gillespie Approach professional is doing therapy and monitoring brain motion during the course of helmet therapy, its use may be beneficial. If not as is the case for many babies now, your child may have a nice shaped head, but may possibly be more predisposed for later health issues because of more fascial cranial restriction.

I believe that a better solution can be to first work out the fascial strain in the body from fetal soft tissue trauma, which probably caused the plagiocephaly. As the fascial strain releases, the plagiocephaly can start to correct for most infants. If needed after therapy is complete, a helmet might help too, as long as the child’s brain cycle is also monitored at the same time.

###

A final point is that I found over the years that brain motion is more important than head shape. I would much rather have a slightly lopsided head with a 200-second brain cycle than a perfectly shaped head with a zero-second brain cycle. Brain motion is the key in the craniosacral fascial system. The cerebrospinal fluid needs to flow well and the fascial web needs to be free. End of story.

We hold the Light for the unborn billions. We feel compassion for all suffering infants. Our aim is for every neonate to experience the wonder of therapy. We see a world where every newborn is free from a lifetime of suffering due to birth trauma. Our goal is to create a global shift of consciousness for a more peaceful planet.
