Routine dental visit gone wrong - teen girl at dentist - Gillespie Approach–Craniosacral Fascial Therapy

A Routine Dental Visit Gone Wrong

A teenage girl went for a routine dental procedure and left with life-altering pain.

She presented to me with jaw, head, neck, shoulder, and shooting pain down her back. She experienced dizziness and had to miss some school because she had difficulty concentrating and focusing.

During that procedure, the dentist used a hard rubber prop to keep her jaw open for two hours without a break—yikes. I believe that act was the catalyst for the disaster that followed.

Her craniosacral fascial system became severely restricted, and her body reacted accordingly. She presented with a zero-second brain cycle and severe upper-body fascial strain.

On top of that experience, she had a history of five concussions. When she was little, her head hit the coffee table. She had three concussions playing sports, and recently accidentally hit her head. Since all traumas to the craniosacral fascial system are cumulative, she was an accident waiting to happen at the dental office.

The dental profession needs to acknowledge a patient’s traumatic history to avoid these train wrecks. In a perfect world, a dental provider would check the patient’s brain cycle before and after any procedure.

In my first therapeutic session, her left TMJ, the same side of her body as the dental procedure, showed a twisting strain down into her trunk. Fascial web strain can travel indiscriminately throughout the body. She felt some relief after the visit as her brain cycle opened to 60 seconds.

She felt did even better after the second visit. I expect to help her peel her traumatic onion of five concussions, other life traumas, and birth traumas. At this point, I cannot determine how many visits she will need to reach the core of her onion and become strain-free.

In my world, she would have been cleared of her birth trauma in the hospital and later had therapy after each concussion. Gillespie Approach Training is a must for all pediatric providers.
