I noticed something unusual last week in my pectus excavatum baby. After working on him without much success, I started asking why.
When Krissy, Mike, and I did our infant research from 2007–12, we found that our most challenging babies were our most enlightening ones. Over 90% of all our fussy babies followed a similar healing routine; their successful therapy just confirmed our emerging philosophy while we refined our techniques. Our discoveries arose from those babies who forced us to look deeper. Since we never charged parents for any therapy visits, the mothers continued to bring these babies back so we could eventually make the breakthroughs. I am so grateful to them.
This baby was also having tongue-tie issues that never resolved with Gillespie Approach–Craniosacral Fascial Therapy. We try to avoid tongue-tie revisions, but sometimes they are necessary. In my perfect world, newborns become strain-free on day one in the hospital. If a baby with difficulty nursing is not helped, revision may be indicated later.
When mom had his revision done recently, his speech immediately improved. Upon examination, the fascia of his tongue and floor of his mouth was loose, and his fascial pectus excavatum strain was gone. Wow, what happened?
Since the fascial web is one, I hypothesized that, every time he moved his tongue, his web pulled on his chest. For other babies you can extrapolate that to any structure in the body. When I hear the “miraculous” tongue-tie stories where a distant body problem is resolved, I believe them. The tongue-tie can be ground zero for restricting the entire fascial web. For those specific babies, revision can be a huge deal.
That explanation also may be why some conditions show up months later after Gillespie Approach–Craniosacral Fascial Therapy is complete. At birth and infancy, we just do not know what exact dots need to be connected, what is still straining on what, deep in the onion. I probably did not pick up on the pectus excavatum strain earlier because I did not connect those specific dots. We have not reached that level of therapeutic sophistication.
I worked on my first baby in 1980 but started to really pioneer the work at birth in 2006 and teach it in 2007. Since then, we have created a solid foundation with a website loaded with infant stories to bring new readers up to speed. But once people with different global viewpoints investigate this approach, so much more will be discovered.
Our message: The body is interconnected in space and time. Since the fascial web connects every structural cell of the body, it controls every body tissue. The web remembers all of its traumas back to conception. After a trauma, one part of the body may be pulling on another part to cause an apparently unrelated condition. Not taught in school, these concepts are new for everyone. I believe that authentic healing works within these parameters. Our mission is to reveal the subtle healing secrets of nature.
