Fussy baby - Gillespie Approach–Craniosacral Fascial Therapy

A Fussy Baby from Kansas City

Raoul had parents of four seek him out for a session; they were seasoned and very tuned-in to their children. Mom had researched and came across articles and decided to try CFT. The session was for one of their 8-month old twins who is seen by two different chiropractors regularly.

Their baby boy presented with a long list of notable concerns including but not limited to: two unsuccessful tongue tie procedures, leaky latch when feeding, spit up often, gas, disliked laying on his back, difficulty opening wide for solid food, cord wrapped around him multiple times at his C-section birth at 37 weeks, dragged (and would not use) his right leg when crawling, seemed uncomfortable when they moved his right leg or rotated it, unable to sit unassisted, uncomfortable and rocked in high chair and would bang the back of his head in high chair, pulled at his ears frequently, rarely slept more than four hours at a time, and much more on his mom’s list.

Raoul assessed the baby’s cranial cycle at around 80 seconds before starting CFT. Raoul spent about an hour doing infant-driven CFT with him, gently “asking, allowing, and assisting” his body to release any tightness. He found, just as the parents suggested—we *champion* parental instinct and involvement in CFT sessions—the baby’s pelvis was restricted and a lot of strain was released during the session. The baby was using his right leg when crawling a bit at the end of the session.

Parents were encouraged to take note of any roller coaster (improvements or regressions) changes after the session and take them as his body processing the therapy. At end of the session the baby’s cycle was at 180 seconds.

That night, we received an update, “he already had a huge improvement in his high chair – he opened his mouth wide for bites, didn’t rock, pull his ears, or fuss the whole time!” The next day parents shared “this evening he was sitting unsupported and took his first movements crawling with his belly off the floor.”

A week-plus later, his mom reported that he “… stands independently and no longer drags his right leg as he crawls. Plus, he no longer spits up and has an improved latch when feeding.” She also shared: “It has been amazing seeing him relaxed and smiling, no longer grimacing in pain. This past week has been such a relief seeing him improve when nothing else had been working!”

They have planned for a few more sessions until his craniosacral fascial system appears freed up. Our aim is for him to not be dependent on a practitioner for lifelong weekly CFT, but only on an as-needed basis once he looks to be clear of strain.

We are grateful the FB group continues to share CFT stories, so that babies and families know they can overcome the challenges that have been culturally accepted as “normal infant behaviors” they will “grow out of.” We are of the same opinion that these all-too-common symptoms in infancy, if unaddressed, have the potential of developing into other health issues down the road.

We are happy to join in sharing about this work so more babies, toddlers and children (adults included, of course) become content in their own skin by getting CF Therapy. We address tension in their bodies and prevent future health concerns from the earliest moment possible so that all can more fully enjoy life.

Raoul and I are grateful for how CFT serves families and individuals of any age!
