Brain fog - dream state - Gillespie Approach–Craniosacral Fascial Therapy

Brain Fog—A Dream State

Everyone with a zero-second brain cycle can have a different experience.

A teenage girl presented with the chief complaint of brain fog. She described her feeling as if she were in a dream state, not based in reality.

She also had anxiety, headaches, neck aches, and backaches. She had a bad accident years ago affecting her right hip, leaving her temporarily unable to walk.

She still had lingering pain and lack of function in that hip. In a separate accident, she also broke her right foot.

Her puzzled doctor suggested that she might have postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS). Her dad wanted to get my opinion first before going down that rabbit hole.

She recently had Lyme disease but was cleared medically. She also just finished two years of braces and had been in two car accidents in her life.

Dad said that she had a traumatic birth with the cord wrapped around her neck—bingo. Of his six children, she was the fussiest baby by far.

On examination, she had the expected zero-second brain cycle. There was an excessive amount of strain in her right hip area pulling into her back and neck.

During the first therapy visit, she exhibited a lot of twisting in her body. At the end of the visit, her brain cycle opened nicely to 60 seconds.

It is quite interesting that everyone has their own unique life experience with a zero-second brain cycle. My hypothesis is that for each individual, different lifetime traumas cause different pressures on different parts of the brain, leading to unlimited pathological possibilities.

The cord wrap was the big red flag that would have necessitated the work directly at birth. Clearing the traumatic slate at birth can lead to a lifetime of health.

Checking for fascial strain is critical for every newborn because of spending months in a confined uterus and experiencing the journey of labor and delivery. Gillespie Approach Training is a must for all birth providers.
