A woman in her 20s, in the prime of her life, suffered from chronic head and neck pain. This story is very typical of many young people in America.
She felt like a helmet was squeezing the top of her head, and her neck was constantly tight. Her MRIs were clean, and she had consulted with the best doctors in Philadelphia.
I believe that her three concussions resulted in a cumulative tightening of her craniosacral fascial system. The most recent one was when she hit her head in the car. A year ago, she struck her head on concrete. When she was eight, she passed out and hit her head.
One cannot be sure what was causing what in her case. The beauty of the Gillespie Approach is that the body will show the provider the way for healing during the course of therapy.
She presented with the expected zero-second brain cycle. She had no knowledge of her birth, but her ear-tubes as an toddler were probably due to some birth trauma.
On the first visit, she went into severe whiplash along with a trunk and neck twist. The soft tissues began to release well, and her brain cycle opened to 40 seconds.
At the second visit, her upper body released even further with her brain cycle opening to over 100 seconds. She said that she felt “looser” after each visit.
The theory behind the Gillespie Approach is that the fascial web applies pressure to body tissues, especially the nervous system, causing pain and dysfunction.
When we facilitate the release of the web, the body can work more efficiently. The body releases its strain like layers of an onion in its own space and time.
I expect that she will do well with continued therapy. Gillespie Approach Training is an important tool for healthcare providers.
