I have always had a soft spot in my heart for young children with headaches. When I developed headaches in my late twenties, I thought my life was rough. Wow, was I wrong. What is it like at six years of age to be looking at a lifetime of head pain and drugs with no answer in sight?
In my early practice days of the ’70s and ’80s before the Internet, parents were understandably unsure of this approach. If on the evaluation visit I sensed that a parent was not going to go ahead with therapy for their headache child, I quietly did a minute or two of treatment gratis just to get the child’s brain breathing. If I was over-stepping my professional bounds, I am guilty as charged.
As most of the headache children over the decades have responded well, a part of me thought about the millions of other headache children who will never receive this therapy and suffer their whole lives. Yes, it was great for a few treated children, but what about all of the others?
Similarly when children with asthma in my career did well, everyone was pleased. But why did just a few hundred children receive correction and not the suffering millions? Globally in 2016, 339,000,000 people had asthma: why couldn’t they have been helped? 420,000 people died from asthma in 2016; did they really have to die?
The same thought process was true for the other effective Gillespie Approach pediatric conditions. Over the years I found that I am hard-wired to focus on the collective, from the one to the many.
For example, Brian Rossiter has set up the website with a special emphasis on a global newborn shift with my private practice information on the back burner. Kim Sherlock and Holly Steflik teach the work worldwide. The Facebook page has attracted many members from around the planet. The fact is that soft tissue trauma at birth is a global issue; everyone spends time in a uterus and has to be born.
The shining diamond in the infant research was the spectacular discovery that the seeds of these and other diseases appeared to be sown at birth due to soft tissue birth trauma. The light bulb in my head went on radiantly. The microcosm of 500 infants in the Lancaster Amish and Mennonite communities reflected the global macrocosm of 134,000,000 newborns every year.
If the Gillespie Approach is done upstream at birth, then through deductive reasoning, the resulting downstream headaches, asthma, and the other conditions will be greatly minimized in life. You will not suffer as a child and need therapy to correct your problem(s). You will not take those untreated issues into adulthood. Done for you as a preventative measure at birth, you and your family will never even know what diseases would have come your way.
Our goal is for every newborn to experience the wonder of therapy. I am just waiting for the world to see its promise.
