Healing is a process, not an event.
A fifteen-year-old boy presented with backaches and some headaches. One of his chores on his family’s farm was lifting heavy milk cartons.
I have seen this phenomenon where young farm boys lift heavy items and strain their bodies to create backaches and headaches.
Young men who lift heavy weights at the gym to build muscle often present with a similar story. The girls may be impressed, but their fascial web can become bound down, creating many conditions.
His appendix burst at seven years of age, leaving a surgical scar. He had a zero-second brain cycle with fascial strain running from his pelvis into his head.
After a pelvic/trunk twist and appendix scar strain worked out nicely at his first therapy visit, his brain cycle opened to an amazing 110 seconds. I told him to do minimal work around the farm with no lifting.
He returned for the second visit in pain. Because he felt so great after the session, his mother told me that he dove right back into his normal work routine. Before long the pain returned with a vengeance.
He presented on this visit with a diminished ten-second brain cycle—a dramatic change. Listening to his body, I helped him reopen to 110 seconds.
Every body constantly heals 24/7. For authentic healing, the patient needs to respect the rest requirement for soft-tissue repair. The human body is not a machine where a part can be replaced and then immediately run full throttle.
In reality, the fascial web is peeling off many layers of old traumas and needs mindful activity for the best patient outcome. As a “young and dumb” teenager, his mother hopes that he has learned his lesson.
We all need to respect the authentic healing needs of the body. Gillespie Approach Training can be the key to unlock the pain cycle.
