Lessons From a Broken Foot

One of my young active patients recently broke his foot sliding into a base. The radiograph showed a buckle fracture. I had just seen him a few weeks before, and his brain cycle was at his usual 200 seconds.

Here are four takeaways from this story:

  • His brain cycle went to zero seconds due to this accident. Since the fascial web connects everything in the body, very few people will connect his broken foot to possible headaches and learning problems at school in the fall. Everyone needs to think differently about the effects of trauma.
  • It took me two visits to help the body work through the fascial strain. His 120-second brain cycle at the end of the first visit told me there still was more strain in his body. Therapy on the second visit released deeper strain in the fascial bone cells of his foot, and he reached the 200-second mark.
  • Some children are very sensitive to trauma. Without this therapy, how can they be completely healthy?
  • If no one had worked the strain out of his foot now, how would he do later in life? If his foot started bothering him for no reason at 60 years of age, no one would connect the root of that problem to his current broken foot. At the most, doctors would say that his foot completely healed then, but we know the fascial web was still holding the trauma.

The Gillespie Approach is a massage modality that helps the body release its tight connective or fascial tissue from its physical and emotional traumas. We have a special interest working with newborns, whose untreated fascial strains from birth trauma can result in a lifetime of suffering.
