Listening is a critical aspect of the Gillespie Approach. To hold a body, let it “talk” to you, feel the fascial strain, and allow it to do whatever it needs to do to free itself is central to our philosophy. The guiding principle is that the body knows best how to heal itself.
I am suggesting that listening to our body can also be an important life skill. I have found that listening to my body has served me well. My body is healing beautifully 24/7, and I just need to be in tune with it.
If I am hungry, I will eat. If I am thirsty, I will drink water. If I am tired, I will rest. If I am sleepy, I will sleep. If I need exercise, I will exercise. I let my body tell me what it needs to stay healthy.
I have found that I can get into trouble by bending the rules. My body functions in a certain rhythm, and I need to honor that flow.
If I get into an accident, I need someone who will listen to my body to help me revisit that event in space and time to experience authentic healing. If I do not feel well, I will not eat to allow my body to detoxify and heal.
If my body feels pain, I will look for the root of the problem instead of managing the discomfort. As a result, I have not taken any pain medication for 60 years.
During the years of my scoliosis correction, I accepted the fact that my body was constantly “talking” during the process. If I ever have a future chronic problem that requires medication in the medical allopathic model, I will search for the root of the issue to avoid the side effects of the drugs.
Whenever I need a shot of happiness, I always go to the place in my consciousness of greatest joy—newborn and infant healing.
I am 76 years old, take no medication, and feel pretty good. As I age, I expect health issues to appear. I will just need to accept reality, listen to my body, and deal with it as best as possible.
I am honored that my body can function well on its own. I continually listen to the wisdom of my body.
