A Primer for Gillespie Approach Students

Students in Gillespie Approach Training used to ask me, “Am I doing it right?”

If you are listening to the body, you are doing it right. If you are allowing it to tell you its story, you are facilitating the healing.

Since patients have their life’s story of trauma stored in their fascial web, just be a good listener.

If you are a mother working on your child, pretend he had a traumatic event at school. You are quietly sitting, fully present with no ego, holding his hand, and listening to his story.

He may be crying, but you are totally in the moment. You are allowing him to work out the charge of that event.

The Gillespie Approach is similar in nature. As you are holding the fascial web, you are listening for the traumatic strain the body is holding in space and time and wants to release right now. You are fully present in the moment, nonjudgmental, without ego, and intently listening.

You are not trying to do anything because this healing is not about you. You are just there to facilitate it.

You need to be totally involved in the process, but not attached to the outcome. This can be challenging as a parent. You took time and paid a lot of money for the training. You desperately want him to get well, but your job is to just help him loosen and not to heal him.

When you are working with infants, let their fascial web talk to you. Let them tell you what happened during those 40 weeks to make them fussy

Listen to their story without judgement. It may not feel pretty and they will tell you that. Help them clear those layers of traumas now so they can be happy babies.

If you are listening to the body, you are doing it right. If you need quantitative measurement to see if something happened, measure the brain cycle before and after the session. As you practice the work over time, that step will fade away.
