Trauma remembered and forgotten - woman posing - Gillespie Approach–Craniosacral Fascial Therapy

Trauma Remembered and Forgotten

Forgotten trauma doing those first forty weeks can have a lasting lifetime effect.

A forty-year-old woman presented with left leg sciatica and a bulge in her left lower back. Her consulting doctors only recommended medication, which was not effective in managing her problem.

She said that no specific trauma had caused this condition. She had a car accident years ago, the typical childhood traumas, and severe constipation as an infant.

On examination, she had a good brain cycle but notable fascial strain in her pelvis extending into her left leg. During therapy, her right leg had the typical strain but her left leg was very restricted. She said that, this past summer, she had to drag that leg around for a few weeks.

When I listened to that leg, it took me on quite a journey. Within twenty minutes, she easily walked down the office hallway a few times and felt that her lower body was considerably looser. She even felt that her neck and shoulders were more free. Her entire fascial web was letting go.

She then remembered that her parents had to do a special leg stretch for her as an infant, indicating pelvic distortion and restriction at birth. The fact that she had severe constipation told me that the fascial strain probably extended into her abdominal cavity.

Connecting the dots in space and time, I hypothesize that her birth trauma predisposed her to this sciatic condition forty years later. Medical professionals need to acknowledge that soft tissue birth trauma can be a serious issue. Clearing fascial strain by a provider with Gillespie Approach Infant Training is a lifetime gift.
