Patients with soft tissue trauma from car accidents can be perplexing for the medical profession.
A 47-year-old woman presented with issues from a recent car accident. She suffered a traumatic head injury with some meningeal bleeding.
She was dealing with typical auto traumatic symptoms: minor headaches, neck and shoulder tightness, eye issues, low energy, and cognitive problems of focusing, reading, and mental clarity. Her mandible was hurting on the side of the head trauma.
She had the expected zero-second brain cycle and fascial strain from her head and neck into her trunk. The trauma created a distinctive restriction in her craniosacral fascial system.
In therapy, she went into an arching pattern that signified whiplash from the accident. Most patients go into the whip (extension) and then the lash (flexion) from the impact.
She released beautifully on the first visit to a ninety-second brain cycle. Since the fascial strain went from her head down into her trunk, it was not just a head and neck problem. I expect her to do well with therapy.
Current medical care for these patients does not effectively address their soft tissue injuries. Thousands of dollars are spent on technology, doctors, drugs, and therapists without really getting to the root of their problem.
Even worse, since there are no medical tests that verify the scientific proof of fascial strain, car insurance companies can easily dismiss these symptoms by denying payment for therapy.
Then lawyers have to become involved with more money wasted. Meanwhile, patients can be stuck with life-altering problems from an accident that may not have been their fault.
The health insurance industry needs to look at our approach for better patient care. Gillespie Approach Training is needed for therapists to effectively treat these patients.
