Sometimes the Gillespie Approach is not just about doing techniques but connecting the dots to discover the root cause of a patient’s issues.
A twenty-year-old man returned to me after ten years. He presented with extreme difficulty in concentrating, focusing, and thinking.
He had “mental fog, headaches around his eyes, and was disinterested in his college studies.” He wanted to do well in school but dropped out because his brain just could not process the engineering workload.
When he left my office at ten years of age, he had an open craniosacral fascial system. The big question—what happened to him in the last ten years?
Usually there is a defining physical or emotional trauma, but he had none over that period. Even though his symptoms were classic for a zero-second brain cycle patient, his brain cycle was still an amazing 140 seconds.
Apparently, the work I had done was still effectively allowing his brain to expand and contract to a large degree. So what could possibly be the problem?
He wore metal frame glasses from the time he got up until the time he went to bed. While he was wearing the glasses, the metal across his midline took his brain cycle down to zero seconds.
When he took them off to sleep, his brain could start to breathe again. Because of an unknown reason, this phenomenon is common for most patients who wear metal frame glasses.
Since he wore them all day, they were in effect clamping his head tight and creating tremendous pressure around his brain. A tip-off was that he complained that his headaches were always around his eyes, close to the metal.
Every patient in this situation may have a different presentation, but there is always some cognitive downside. Young children may be diagnosed with a learning disorder or ADHD. Frazzled senior citizens may be just blown off by everyone as a fact of reaching old age.
He attained a 200-second brain cycle at the end of the visit. I recommended that he purchase a pair of glasses with plastic frames as soon as possible. I would see him in about a month to reevaluate his brain cycle and condition.
My ability to feel and measure brain motion was the key for this patient’s assessment. Gillespie Approach Training can help therapists change the lives of many patients.
